 by-election media coverage
« Thread Started on Sept 23, 2008, 9:47pm »

just thought I'd try and keep a record of where Glenrothes pops up on the tv over the next few weeks:
will start with last night's newsnight where an uncomfortable looking Labour campaign manager fields some questions for 5 minutes:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dn795/
I'm not sure how long the bbc keeps each program online for, so catch it while you can....

I've heard rumours that there were cameras sniffing round the golden acorn and the ciswo today too, so if anybody can find the footage please add it here! news at 10 tonight is supposedly a good bet.

ach, the ciswo section was only about 20 seconds long! :)
it might pop up here some time soon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/player/

edit: found the earlier edition with a bit more ciswo action than the late news:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/player/bb_rm_ms_4449126

again there's no indication of how long it'll be available for so watch it while you can.

wahey! :D
you've got 26 days to watch it!

Glenrothes is about 4 and a half minutes in! there's also some fine commentary from Bernard Ponsonby standing outside the yard...

supposedly Lindsay Roy and Peter Grant were on tv last night according to this: http://tinyurl.com/48h96t
it doesn't seem to be Scotland today, Reporting Scotland or Newsnight though! anybody know what program they were on?

edit: turns out it was Politics Now:
here's part 1:
http://video.stv.tv/bc/news-politics-now-sans-sinatra2-20080925/

and part 2:
http://video.stv.tv/bc/news-politicsnow-part2-20080925/

you've got 27 days to watch them as of now!

neither of them were exactly stars of the screen, and they took a fair bit of stick off the guy in the studio in the second part... Roy seemed to have no idea about the figures behind the council tax proposals and that just highlighted that he's not got any political experience, and Grant just wouldn't give a straight answer on the income tax levels either - just standard politician question avoidance... and on top of that they both just looked like rabbits in the headlights throughout the whole thing ::)

LOL

I have to agree with you there, I also believe that this race is Wide open, and it could go either way:

* Labour at national level could count and that roy man aswell
* SNP at council level could also count ( with a high number of oap there could VOTE against them to make a point about the social care charges) and also the new income tax

Wetherspoons must have gotten a good deal from STV . The interview with Lindsay Roy and Peter Grant was done on the roof .

Here's a candidate summary from STV's website:
http://news.stv.tv/scotland/32962-glenrothes-byelection-candidates-at-a-glance/

and a well commented-upon blog from BBC Scotland's political editor Brian Taylor:
