I think the Kingdom Centre is a big let down for the Town, as for not enough public "green" spaces, I think its a bit inaccurate. People have always commented to me on how much green space there is in Glenrothes, the recent awards should prove that (town in Bloom or something like that).
Back on the topic of the Kingdom Centre, it BADLY needs an anchor store now to bring in the other high street names. By the looks of things it could be a while before Sainsbury's is open, I think it would be a perfect opportunity for the likes of Tesco to open a Metro store in the old Woolworths. Tesco and Sainsbury's seem to playing this game of "one upmanship" at the moment (look at Kelso) and it would be a quick way of the Centre securing the anchor store it desperately needs and would give Tesco a foothold in Glenrothes (which its been trying for for years) before its competitors. But no doubt the Kingdom Centre will do what it always does when a large unit is vacant and carve it into 2 or 3 units. I have to admit when I was in the Town Centre a few weeks ago it looked very empty (customers not just the shops) and it even looked like Dunnes was trying to save a few quid on lighting with its store looking rather empty. Then again there have been rumours for years about that store and whether or not it was to remain in the Town. The KC badly needs another supermarket in there quick, at the moment all they have is Co-op, Iceland and Farmfoods. When I was growing up in the town there was the Co-op Food Hall, Presto (became Safeway), Fine Fare (became Gateway then Somerfield), Bejam (became Iceland), Laws (became Wm Low for a short period before closing down) and even Woolworths (god rest its soul) had a nice bakery and delicatessen counter. Supermarkets appear to be the only area of retail which is taking on extra staff during this credito cruncho thing and everyone needs food!!!
