There are currently proposals for a new bowling alley in Glenrothes and I think this is the best news in a while for the town. It will have 24 lanes and a bingo. I am friends with one of the staff at the head office of the company who are hoping to have the place built by 2009. I can try and get more info. The picture below to shows you how the plans look, i'll try an update the post with the maps. Its early days but my friend says its almost a certainty that the place will open in a couple of years. Solar Leisure are based in Liverpool and own bingos and bowling alleys. What do you all think, i know i'll go and theres bound to be a few jobs when it opens. I feel sorry for Fraser bowl though because its only got 10 lanes and is bound to lose business.

Looks good! We could do with a decent bowling alley as again we are all forced to travel to Dunfermline for a wee game. I'm not so sure about the location though, it's not very central and is over an all weather football pitch. What would happen when the shows come??

It should be built nearer the town centre? It will probably kill off our existing bowling alley if its built and is there a need for ANOTHER bingo hall either. Wouldnt it be better if they could do a Cinema/Bowling complex instead? I would support that!

I agree we do not really need more Bingo. Citi - can you suggest to your friend they swap the bingo hall for a Zap Zone (Laser Quest)? I love that and the nearest one is in Dundee (and is not that great either).
Markinchlad - I hear your challenge. I will kick your bum again at a dance dance dance off! lol

SOME MORE INFO
Rothes Bowl is now set to be opened within an 18 month timeframe and will not have the bingo hall that was originally proposed. This ommission has come about as the company decided that bingo may not be as profitable as first thought. It is also thought that there may be problems in obtaining a license from the gambling commission / local authority.
Plans have however been passed for the construction of a two storey tenpin bowling centre with two bars, two function rooms, 24 bowling lanes, diner and entertainment facilities.
The centre is due to open in the latter half of 2008, probably in the October or November. Operated by Solar Leisure of Merseyside, this is set to be their flagship centre.
It is thought that the new centre will sverely affect business at the nearby Fraser Tenpin Bowling Centre in the centre of the town which has effectively had a monopoly on the town until now.
Mike Light of Solar Leisure says that "... Glenrothes and indeed the Fife region will benefit greatly from the addition of our new facility that will provide not only entertainment, but a sizeable number of full and part time jobs for local people. We see the town as a number one location to expand our business and look forward to being part of the community.
Mr. Light goes on to say in the April edition of a trade magazine that he fully expects the bowling alley to be open for business towards the end of 2008 and that the contractors are ready to start work as soon as everything is finalised.
